Well, as the season opening day approaches, it is a good sign that the temperatures have plummeted overnight and snow is now visible 3/4 of the way down the Niseko-Hirafu pistes.
This coming weekend and into next week should see much greater snowfall all the way to the rice fields below the village which will hopefully give way to the lifts being opened well before the beginning of December.
Fingers crossed!! There are many staff and locals just waiting for the opportunity to bring out their ski/board of choice for their first turns of the season.

Niseko is famed amongst skiers for it's powder snow and amongst locals for it's amazing produce. Recently, Niseko was visited by celebrated Chef and Author Anthony Bourdain as part of his television series No Reservations.
Kutchan is often overlooked by visitors to Niseko which is unfortunate when Izakaya's such as Torimatsu, which is such an authentic Japanese experience, is only a short drive away and the food is absolutely amazing.
On Saturday the 18th September outside the Ace Centre 4 lift and the Alpen Hotel, Niseko Gourmet and Ezo Seafood will host the BBQ for the closing ceremony of the Niseko Cycle week 2010.
Taiko means "drum" in Japanese although outside of Japan, the word is often used to refer to any of the various Japanese drums and to the relatively recent art-form of ensemble taiko drumming (kumi-daiko).
